Arsenal are closing in on their first major signing of the summer after agreeing a fee in the region of £14million for Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo.
The robust midfielder impressed for the Bundesliga Champions last year and again in this summers Confederations Cup tournament, Gustavo has been deemed surplus to requirements by new boss Pep Guardiola following the signing of Thiago Alacantara. Gustavo was close to joining Wolfsburg, but the player reportedly prefers a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal set to pounce. Reliable sports journalist Raphael Honigstein confirmed Arsenal had agreed a fee and now just had to discuss personal terms with the player – who is thought to be looking for around £90,000 per-week.
Arsenal are also expected to announce the signing of 20 year-old Colombian midfielder Sebastien Perez following a successful trial.
Gustavo reminds us of Gilberto Silva and would transform the dynamics of the Gunners midfield set-up. Look out for our scout report on the Brazilian midfielder which will be published in the coming week.
