Following the arrival of Shkodran Mustafi, Arsenal are on the verge of sending Calum Chambers out on loan to Middlesbrough for the 2016/17 campaign.

We’ve known about the Chambers situation for a while now, but it looks as if he’s finally found a club that will give him the first-team football he deserves.

Wenger all but confirmed the 21-year-old was set to leave this season when he selected £2.5million signing Rob Holding in the starting line-up against Leicester and Watford.

And with the legs of Shkodran Mustafi to compete with, it looked set to be another season of warming the bench for Chambers, who can play at RB, CB and CDM.

His versatility is something we don’t see too much in England players these days, and with the thought of gaining real experience of the physical nature of this game a switch to a fellow Premier League side made sense.

Sky Sports revealed that Chambers was set to have a medical today as the move nears completion, but it’s a smart decision that could be massive for his career.

Chambers definitely has a future with us, and I think we are always too quick to forget just how young he is having to compete with Gabriel and Mertesacker before this summer.

Now his chances have become even slimmer, and with the above duo out it leaves Wenger with just three first-team centre backs to choose from.

It’s uncertain whether or not their will be an emergency recall option on his contract, but that would make sense given Arsenal’s situation in defence in terms of injuries.

Middlesbrough are a club that have already made an impressive start to life in England’s top division having recorded no losses and wrapped up five points from a possible nine.

He’s more than capable of picking up game time, and having already been selected in Gareth Southgate’s England Under-21 squad the future looks bright for the youngster!
