The news comes from The Bolton News who are reliable. Yesterday we reported that Arsenal were closing in on a deal for the 21-year-old defender after tabling a 2nd bid.
The report says Arsenal have had a bid accepted, probably worth around £2million and that the player completed a medical on Monday evening. Personal terms are still yet to be agreed but they are expected to be a formality and tied up later in the week.
Two weeks ago we wrote about 3 players that could possibly join Arsenal in July, and Rob Holding was one of them.
Much like the signing of Asano this isn’t the mega star that we’re looking for but it does seem to be the likeliest to get completed within the next couple of weeks. For the minuscule fee mentioned, he is worth the risk. If he impresses on loan then he could have a part to play in the future when the likes of Laurent Koscielny (31 in Sep) and Per Mertesacker (32 in Sep) call it a day.
Arsenal are certainly looking to add younger defensive options with that defensive duo both nearing the end of their playing careers. Currently there are a lack of options in the academy, especially in the central positions. The addition of Holding would simply provide Arsenal with an option of potential. With Calum Chambers, Gabriel and potentially a new young central defender arriving, Holding will have to do very well on loan (if he goes) to make the breakthrough into the Arsenal first eleven.
More to come…
