With the international break in its latter stages, the rumours remain. This time, Spanish site Fichajes suggest that Arsenal WILL sign one of Arda Turan, Karim Benzema or Isco this summer.
Considering Turan’s comments earlier this week, I think it is extremely unlikely that we will be signing him, but the Madrid duo are more realistic. Real Madrid are reportedly planning a complete overhaul of the squad this summer and whilst I am unsure if Benzema will be sold, Isco will almost certainly make way.
The Spaniard cannot cement a place in the starting eleven at Madrid and he needs to move on for the sake of his career. The 23-year-old has been a target of Arsene Wenger’s for some time now, but do the Gunners need him?
Whilst there is interest in signing a creative wide player, I believe that we need someone who can score goals. Isco is far from prolific with 2 goals in 25 La Liga appearances this season (18 starts). I would prefer to see some like Marco Reus or Henrikh Mkhitaryan, both of whom are creative players that can play on the wing and score frequently.
Isco would add obvious quality though and if he was available for the right price, Wenger may struggle to not be tempted into a bid. Toni Kroos has also been linked with a move to The Emirates. Kroos would be the most appropriate, with the need for central midfield reinforcements pressing.
Whilst the reputability of this source can rightly be questioned, if it does happen, I would certainly rather see us sign Benzema ahead of Isco. What about you? Comment below or tweet us @FreshFootball.
