Emmanuel Eboue has stated that he would love to return to the Gunners this month after suffering a long stint out of football.
The former Arsenal defender was released by Galatassary at the beginning of the 2015/16 campaign following a season of discontent playing in the Under-21’s side.
Since then he’s failed to agree terms with a side capable of meeting his high wage demands and quite frankly deal with an ego that would give most clubs a run for their money.
However, in an attempt to gain some media coverage the right-back has reportedly told The Sun of his admiration of linking up with Arsene Wenger’s men again.
I came back for training and I was told I would not be playing, the president told the manager at the time not to pick me.
The way I was treated was very unfair. We are looking for options and I would love to come back to Arsenal.
The case is quite similar to that of Mathieu Flamini, when the Frenchman made a return to the Gunners in 2013 and has since made a series of vital appearances.
And at 32 years of age, there is a chance we could see the same thing happen with Eboue, after the right-back waved goodbye to the Emirates back in 2010.
At first, his career at Galatassary was booming and the Ivorian was one of the first names on the team-sheet, leading the Turkish giants to three Super Ligue titles.
But as Eboue evolved in Turkey so did his boredom, and he began to lose interest in fighting for his place when fresh faces came into the picture.
Whether or not that is good news for Arsenal is another question, but it could be something they need if Mathieu Debuchy finally agrees a deal to end his Gunners misery.
Eboue would certainly not come in and take Hector Bellerin’s place but he would be a player that can be depended on to give 110% for a club that he played at for over six years.
He would come in on a free and stand as a squad rotation player for competitions such as the FA Cup, where Arsene Wenger is always keen to mix the selections.
It wouldn’t be the biggest risk the boss makes either, with Calum Chambers also on hand to cover the right full-back position we would have replacements if Eboue wasn’t up to scratch.
Ultimately I don’t think it’s a deal that will go through because it’s so difficult to judge whether he still has the quality needed to support a side pushing for three major trophies.
It would however be a massive boost to the fans who loved Eboue to pieces, but Wenger has never been a man that will sign a player for sentimental value.
Perhaps Eboue will be invited to train with Arsenal and then the manager will make a decision, but for now just take these comments as yet another transfer rumour.
