Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of securing a deal to transfer David Ospina to Besiktas on a permanent basis.
According to national newspaper, Fanatik, the Turkish club are interested in securing the services of the 27-year-old as early as the upcoming transfer window.
Reports suggest that Besiktas would take the goalkeeper on a loan spell for the rest of the season with option to buy in the Summer if he performs well enough.
That is something that may be welcomed by Ospina, who has failed to make a realistic challenge against first-choice goalkeeper, Petr Cech.
The man between the sticks has had his appearances limited with Arsenal’s early exit from the League Cup and a failure to perform when thrown in for our two opening Champions League fixtures.
But despite his failure to replicate his debut season with the side, it seems Arsene Wenger wouldn’t allow this move to go through unless he’s found a genuine back-up to Cech.
With Wojciech Szczesny keen to extend his deal at Roma, it seems the Gunners boss could be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper in the summer if Ospina is to eventually leave.
It’s disappointing news for Arsenal fans but something they can surely understand with the South American’s ability being too good to sit on the bench week after week.
Ospina has been linked with a move to Besiktas on multiple occasions and it looks as if he’s open to anywhere to get regular playing time at this point in the season.
However, with no rush to get appearances to impress his national side you can see Ospina sticking around to make a name for himself in Arsenal’s FA Cup run.
