Well well well. It’s Monday morning and the week is sure kicking off with some crazy headlines. But is it that crazy? We’re going to take a closer look at Arsenal’s reported move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
I woke up to see the Telegraph reporting Ibrahimovic to Arsenal, citing TuttoMercatoWeb as their source. I was immediately surprised as I regularly check their website for Arsenal news, and had seen nothing of the sort. It must be new then? I check again, nope, nothing. So unless The Telegraph and the other English tabloids citing the story can read the minds of the TMW writers, it’s a fake citation, sadly.
However, that does not mean completely that a deal won’t happen. Ibrahimovic is unhappy in Paris and has been strongly linked with a move back to Milan, but if Arsene Wenger could put together a good financial package the Swedish striker may be tempted.
PSG reportedly want just £11million for the 33 year old. Despite his age, Ibrahimovic is still one of the best strikers in world football and I’m sure Wenger would have no qualms in paying that asking price. He would probably want to earn at least £180,000 per week and become the clubs highest earner, but he’d probably deserve that.

Neutrals might say Ibrahimovic would not want to join Arsenal, but the fact is with him we would be right up there with Chelsea and Manchester City. I’d also think at his age, he would like to try and play in a league where he has yet to test himself.
Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly interested too, but Ibrahimovic won’t want to retire from Champions League football just yet by joining Liverpool and whilst the lure of silverware might tempt him to Chelsea, Diego Costa would surely keep him out of the team for much of the season.
English media will have a field day spreading this story and rising hopes of the fans, but remember that it’s not actually been reported in Italy. So don’t get too excited – the only real news is that the Swede could be on the market this summer.
If a move did come to The Emirates fruition, the fans would be full of hope as usually where Ibrahimovic goes, the title goes. Obviously the fact that we’d be finally signing a world class striker would also be pretty good.
