2. CHAMPIONS LEAGUE EXIT vs MONACO

For the 16th time under Arsene Wenger, Arsenal made it through to the last 16 of the Champions League. After drawing Monaco we were all led to believe that this round would be a breeze and that Arsenal would finally progress to the quarter finals. How wrong were we?

Monaco stunned Arsenal in the first leg by beating them 3-1 at The Emirates Stadium. I relieved I wasn’t able to watch the drubbing Monaco gave us in that match. I did, however, watch the second leg in which Arsenal played Monaco at their own game and pulled out all the stops to try to overturn the deficit they faced. Unfortunately the two goals Arsenal scored wasn’t enough and the third goal never materialised despite their undying efforts. With the aggregate scoreline ending at 3-3 it was Monaco who progressed to the next round on the away goal advantage. And, yet again, Arsenal exited the UEFA Champions League.

In this 2014 article from the Mirror it would appear that Arsenal are the most successful football club never to have won the Champions League. Nothing changes.
