5 – More signings are coming (soon)
We managed to have 90 minutes of no transfer speculation, but as soon as the final whistle went it was all anybody could talk about after seeing the options we had on our bench.
Only goalkeeper Matt Turner was not an Arsenal player last season, with all of the other eight players on the bench failing to get a start for one reason or another.
Arteta could do with at least one more name to come in and inspire from the bench, with the likes of Fabio Vieira and Marquinhos already eyeing up a spot in the squad once they reach full match fitness.
It’ll be interesting to see if Arteta takes advantage of the new Premier League rule regarding five substitutions, but if so he will definitely need some more names to work with.
Add in the jam packed schedule of a Europa League and players all building up to the World Cup, Arteta was immediately interrogated after sealing his first victory of the season.
Speaking to Ryan Taylor from the Daily Express, Arteta said, “We are going to try. There are a few things we have planned. We are going to try in the next weeks”.
We all expect Arteta to strengthen in centre midfield and a wide forward, with the latter position still unclear on who could come in the door at London Colney.
Arsenal are said to be preparing an offer for Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans, a player who is keen on the move and a club who are desperate to raise funds this summer.
A £30m offer would get this deal over the line in seconds, but it looks like Arsenal might ride down the clock as they look to put pressure and time on City to lower the asking price.
