2 – Walcott Should Stick To What He Knows
It’s becoming a bit of an annual tradition for Walcott to get publicly criticised before hitting back with a goal to silence his doubters.
The past few weeks have seen the England reject get hassle from almost everyone that remotely enjoys watching football, but he’s replied in the best way possible, scoring goals.
His rifled shot against Viking FK was enough to get us to stop and think whether he could do something in the forward role, but then he went and played against Manchester City…
Used as a substitute in the second half, Wenger brought Walcott back on to the right-wing and there was no doubting how comfortable he looked when given half a chance.
His clever run enabled him to cut back to Alex Iwobi who brought the Gunners level, and then Walcott danced through the defence to add a second and ease up the intensity of the game.
Walcott has racked up the most amount of minutes in pre-season and whilst that comes as no surprise he hasn’t managed to do a lot with them before the past weekend.
Wenger ensures that he can still do a job in the centre forward role but when you’re given three chances against some quite frankly dreadful teams then things are pretty clear.
The boss needs to stop making excuses for his prized asset and instead, adapt him into a top class right-winger before his years at peak level go by even quicker than the years since he signed for us.
