5 – Can You Teach An Old Dog New Tricks?
It may be the year of the elite managers, but with a massive ego comes a massive expectation, and to some of them this could be the challenge that stumbles their career.
Jose Mourinho has been handed the task of putting life back into Manchester United, and he’s already making an impressive start having made three signings and one more on the way.
However, big ego’s have never faired well at Old Trafford and it’ll go one of two ways for Mourinho who has to deal with the dreaded Thursday night Europa League ties.
On the other side of Manchester, Pep Guardiola is arguably the most exciting addition to the Premier League but until now he’s had a great group of players to work with.
It’s true that City have the talent but whether or not the former Bayern and Barcelona boss can get them to gel is another thing, there could be quite a shift in style of play.
Elsewhere Antonio Conte is the man in charge of getting over the hangover period Chelsea have endured, and his experience is key to bringing success to the London side.
Conte is also new to English football and it’s a massive change for him, so I think we could see an early stutter from the Blues.
What I’m trying to say here is that there are so many challenges facing these clubs that it could prove to be another ridiculous season where experience counts.
Arsenal are one of few top clubs going into the season with very little change in the backroom staff or player setup, so they have to use that to their advantage.
