4 – Delivering In Depth
Whilst people cry out for marquee signings to put Arsenal in contention, Wenger is just as aware of how the team dynamic can improve your chances of success in competitions.
Forgetting the long-term injury to Danny Welbeck, the Gunners now have at least two players capable of playing in the first team for every position on the pitch.
This is what Wenger has been working up to, and now when the obvious injury crisis does come into effect we have a squad that can step up to the plate, rather than counting on youngsters.
Three of the top five favourites for the title this season are missing from Champions League action and that gives them a major run in the season to rest squad members.
If Wenger is serious about getting his hands on silverware then he needs to know he can count on rotating players without losing too much of a balanced squad.
Looking at these players there’s not one that is happy to be on the bench, and that’s something we haven’t had for over ten years in the days of the Invincibles.
What’s more, the youth in Alex Iwobi and Jeff Renne-Adelaide aren’t being pushed into action because Wenger finally has the ability to pick and choose the right games for them to come in.
Midfield is where I see the most exciting battle this year, with so many players gunning for the same position, if we can avoid injuries then this is a fantastic group of players to compete against.
