With just one month to go until the Premier League season gets underway, the countdown is on for Arsenal to end a 12 year wait to bring home the title.

Despite finishing above local rivals Spurs for another season, the Gunners fell 10 points short of Leicester City in what was the most unpredictable season to date.

Arsene Wenger’s side failed to take advantage of the big boys shortcomings and instead the 5000/1 shots finished off a fairytale campaign by lifting the trophy in May.

With the memories of another dismal season still firmly in the minds of all Arsenal supporters, change is needed this summer to ensure the club are still taken seriously in the title race.

Question marks have been raised over the coaching style of Wenger not suiting the modern game, but here’s five reasons why the Frenchman can prove his critics wrong and be on that open-top bus by May 2017.

1 – Wenger’s Last Year?

Despite this seeming like a sad factor in the Arsenal contingent, this could finally be the drive the manager needs to go out on a high, just like his old rival Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 66-year-old has repeatedly stated that his desire is to leave the team in the best possible position going forward, and with one year left on his contract he’s already planning for that eventuality.

Many people are regarding this season as win or bust for Wenger, and reports state that the board will assess a contract renewal during the early stages of the campaign.

In my opinion I think he’ll leave either way. Win the Premier League and you go out on a high, win nothing and you’ve got no excuses left considering the squad he has to work with.

Sure, injuries have quashed his plans of a trophy overhaul in recent seasons but this finally looks like at title-winning squad and Wenger has to use that to his best ability.

These players have joined the club not just because of the facilities or players, but because this man is in charge and they will want to give him the best possible leaving present.

I think we’ll see a more ruthless Wenger this season, someone that makes decisions to win games and not to make players happy. He’s started to do that in 2015/16 by dropping numerous players, and I think the message is pretty clear.

Pressure on the players is getting more intense and that can only be a good thing, the best players thrive off of pressure so this will be a massive test for both them and the boss.
