5. Stefan O’Connor
Age: 17
Squad Number: 73
Preferred Position: Centre Back
Another promising central defender to come through the ranks is this 17-year-old, who made good progress throughout last year by setting himself as a key influence throughout the Arsenal Under 18’s.
He was a vital part in helping the reserve side through the Youth Cup and managed to be handed 25 starts last year, showing his consistent form.
He will bring composure to this Arsenal back line, and will make a challenge when it has to be made. His no-nonsense attitude is what’s made him stand out in the Under 18’s, and provides a threat at corners due to a good heading ability.
Although not recognised by the boss yet, O’Connor adds to an ever-growing British core, and will also help to take a commanding position at centre back, being known to be comfortable on the ball.
Is He Ready?
At just 17 years old it would be a struggle to throw him straight into the mix, but like Isaac Hayden, Stefan would be unfazed by the call up to the first team, because he has confidence in his ability.
Already a demanding voice at the back, he will be looking to gain a regular place in the Under-21 side this season.
