Alessio Cerci, had already been dubbed with the nickname “l’Henry di Valmontone” (‘the Thierry Henry of Valmontone’)on joining AS Roma’s youth team before starting his professional career at AS Roma in March 2005. However, he mainly continued to play for their youth team until he was loaned out to Brescia (2006-07), Pisa (2007-08) and Atalanta (2008-09) until he returned to Roma in the 2008-09 season. In August 2010 Cerci transferred to Fiorentina where he apparently had a strained relationship with the fans and in 47 games over the next two seasons he only managed to score 12 goals. Cerci was sold to Torino in August 2012 where he plays primarily as a second striker but is equally as happy playing in position as a right winger. In his international career, Cerci has played in all the Italian national youth teams, played for Italy in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and has also been named in Italy’s provisional 30-man World Cup 2014 squad.
