Arsenal appear to be a rabbit in headlights at the moment. They cannot complete transfers in or out but in the final stages of the window that needs to change. There are top quality players available for the right price and in this article, we look at three who look set to leave their current clubs in the coming week.
1 – Virgil van Dijk
Van Dijk has handed in a transfer request and will surely be pushing to move this summer, rather than rot in the reserves at Southampton. The club surely know a player with such high value would be better elsewhere. With Wesley Hoedt set to join Southampton, the club have their replacement now secured and are likely to be more receptive to bids for Van Dijk in the final week of the transfer window. At the end of the day the player does not want to be there. Arsenal need another top quality central defender and with Inter Milan attempting to sign Shkodran Mustafi, it could clear room and finances for Arsenal to go in with a big bid for van Dijk. The Gunners spent £35million on Mustafi last summer, and Inter Milan’s bid appears to be some way short of that currently, at a reported £20million. Also, Wenger doesn’t appear to be keen on Calum Chambers, so the Gunners could reduce the asking price for van Dijk by including Chambers in any deal – perhaps £40million + Chambers?
