3 Things We’ve Learnt From Arsenal’s Pre-Season Tour Of USA

3 – Pleasant Surprises

With attention drawn towards the chances of Arsenal signing players this summer, we often get distracted to those who are already in the squad.

Some of us would’ve been disappointed that the big names were missing whilst Arsenal were out on tour of the US, but it may be seen as a blessing in disguise.

Despite the likes of Alexis, Ozil and Ramsey all absent from the tour, we got a chance to see some of our youngsters in action, as well as those who’ve struggled for form recently.

The biggest name in that category would have to be Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and two wonder goals in as many games will do wonders for his confidence as the new campaign approaches.

Arsene Wenger has already stated that this is a massive season for the Englishman, who dropped out of the international squad following that horrid injury towards the end of the season.

But a summer of fitness and extra hours in the gym has clearly paid off, and he’s sending messages to the boss that a new winger isn’t needed this summer, following reports that Riyad Mahrez is close to signing for the Gunners.

This season has to have a target though, and I think that’s finding his best position and sticking with it until he settles in properly, too much dabbling across the midfield didn’t help.

Ultimately I think he’s a winger, and whilst nobody is taking Ozil’s place in the number 10 role he should be thinking about that starting team-sheet every week.

If he starts believing in how good he can be then we’ll start to see results, but pre-season has just shown us that when playing in a relaxed manor he’s comfortable on the ball.
