Olivier Giroud
The 28 year-old who scored during that memorable league cup victory over Reading, has enjoyed a great season since returning from injury in November, managing 18 goals with 2 of those in this competition.
The Frenchman has obvious personal and tactical attributes, but has developed his game immensely since his arrival 3 years ago.
His 6ft4 frame makes him the obvious target man, built to head the ball in crucial areas within the final third including the goal. It also means he can produce commanding hold-up play up front, allowing his supporting team-mates to join the play.
But it isn’t just his physicality, it’s his intelligence and skilful link-up play with his supporting team-mates, which catches the eye most of all.
We’ve all witnessed the effortless flicks into the feet of others to keep the attacks flowing. The majestic manner of which last year’s Premier League goal of the season was created, between him and goalscorer Jack Wilshere is the best example. It’s no secret now that his technical abilities have improved massively.
The stats are stacked well in favour of the Frenchman to be considered amongst the elite goalscorers of the league, and I think with the extra confidence and hunger he has to score goals this season, will make him one of Reading’s biggest threats.
