3 Defenders Arsenal Could Sign If The Mustafi Deal Falls Through

3 – Marcel Tisserand (Monaco)

The latest to come under the Arsenal microscope but in the circumstances this could be the man that Wenger has to settle for.

At 23, Tisserand is the youngest defender to feature in this feature and if Wenger is looking for experience then he’s not going to get it with Monaco defender.

In a surprise approach, reports in England have lined up the DR Congo international as the latest name to partner Laurent Koscielny on a long-term basis.

A versatile defender who can play at full-back too, he’s still establishing himself as a physical presence and will need a lot of work to get up to the level required for the Premier League.

So a lot of this might be sounding pretty negative right now, but if Wenger wants some quick and easy cover then look no further than the youngster.

What’s the latest?

Monaco are already setting themselves up to get rid of the defender, and you’d be easily mistaken to think a move to Espanyol was signed, sealed and delivered.

However, it looks as if Tisserand is stalling the move to wait and see if Arsenal are genuinely interested in his services, with the chance to work his way up the ranks a fitting challenge.

Life in Ligue 1 hasn’t been easy and after failing to make it as a regular in Leonard Jardim’s side he’s enjoyed loan spells at Toulouse and Lens, both have given him a fair opportunity.

A switch to another league, and along with it another country could work in his favour as he aims to pick up more international experience as he enters his peak years.

Arsenal will have to compete with Espanyol for his signature but that shouldn’t be too much of a contest, and this deal will come down to where best the player can see himself.

Tisserand is still young and he would be coming into a squad that are already breathing down the neck of the manager after just two games, could he cope with that pressure?
