3 – Tom Cleverley
- Age: 25
- Position: Centre Defensive Midfield
- Best Attribute: Vision
Yes Arsenal fans, six months ago would you really expect to see this man as one of the most dangerous players on the pitch?
Well the truth is Tom Cleverley has finally been allowed to play his own style of football since his move from Manchester United back in the Summer.
Working as a pivot point in the centre of midfield, the youngster has been a significant addition to the Villa squad this season, and is already boasting an impressive tally.
The Englishman has picked up three goals and one man of the match performance in the 32 games he’s played this season, which whilst on paper doesn’t look great but for the role the 25-year-old is playing, it’s certainly modest.
Driving the midfield from defence into attack, Cleverley can be most likened to Francis Coquelin, a workforce who isn’t concerned about getting in amongst the penalty area, he just wants to do his job to protect the defence.
Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla, who are expected to line up in the middle of midfield on Saturday afternoon, will have to go through Cleverley first, and that’s easier said than done.
If the Arsenal players can get the midfielder riled up, then his statistic of seven yellow cards this season could crop up again. If Cleverley is forced into an early yellow card, it could speak great volumes for the Arsenal attack.
