Arsenal Could Sign Top Quality German International For €25million

If Arsenal want to land a defender good enough to stand in for the injured Per Mertesacker, it will cost them just £21m according to Valenica.

After the former German international was ruled out for five months, attention quickly turned to the availability of Shkodran Mustafi of the La Liga side.

Reports in Spain believe the defender is up for grabs as Valencia need the quick sale in order to balance the books following another disappointing season.

At 24 years of age Mustafi isn’t the most experienced player to come into a Premier League side, but he certainly has the edge over the underwhelming Mertesacker.

The two know each other through playing for their nation, working as a pair for the majority of the 2014 World Cup, where Mustafi was a regular substitute as Germany went on to be victors.

He’s capable of playing at right-back too, having been the versatile defender needed at international level able to play across the back-line.

That will be welcome news to Wenger who is ready to pay the lowly sum of just £20.9m, a bargain in this ridiculous market for a player that has so much ahead of him.

He’s not the major signing Arsenal fans would want but he’s definitely capable of growing into another key figure to partner Laurent Kosicelny over the next few years.

His discipline is fantastic and experience in the national team will have built up a desire to compete for a position in the starting XI, so he understands it’s not going to be a straightforward fit into the squad.

The arrival of Mustafi would finally tick off the places that need depth in the defence, and with Rob Holding and Calum Chambers available too, rotation will be a lot simpler.

Wenger has already stated that an experienced player will be on their way to the Emirates but Arsenal being Arsenal, it will take time to get a deal over the line.
