According to reports, Wojciech Szczesny is expected to perform a U-turn on his proposed loan move to Roma after the Serie A club failed to reach an agreement.
The Guardian believe the Polish shot-stopper will stick around at Arsenal until a club can meet the requirements of paying a specific amount of Szczesny’s wages.
That means the 26-year-old would join Petr Cech and David Ospina on the books as goalkeepers for the 2016/17 season, a scenario that neither Arsenal or Szczesny are keen on.
Fresh Arsenal reported earlier in the week that the Gunners academy graduate was close to a deal to re-join Roma, but it now seems Arsenal will wait for an improved offer.
Following the signing of Cech last summer, Szczesny packed his bags for Italy and has since made 42 appearances for Roma under each of Luciano Spalletti and Rudi Garcia.
His regular playing time helped him to land a spot as Poland’s number one man between the sticks for this summers European Championships, where he’s recently picked up a thigh injury.
Despite Arsenal willing to loan Szczesny out again, they’re yet to receive a good enough offer from Roma and will hold out until a club are prepared to meet a certain percentage of his wages.
Arsene Wenger is keen on the man he brought through the academy, and it’s likely he’ll be offered a contract extension once his deal ends in the next two years.
