Wenger Suggests Permanent Midfield Departure At The End Of This Season

Arsene Wenger has suggested Jack Wilshere could leave the club permanently at the end of this season, after it was his decision to leave on loan.

Following Arsenal’s pile-up of injuries in midfield, Wenger has been on the back end of heated criticism after failing to implement a recall option in Wilshere’s agreement.

However, as his side prepare to face the league leaders Chelsea, Wenger has confirmed that it was Wilshere who was desperate to leave the club to find a new team.

And although Wenger admitted it would be nice to have his academy graduate back for a massive run of fixtures, there was not a lot he could do about changing his mind.

We have agreed for Wilshere to go for one year  on loan, we will accept that.

We could do with having him back, but we didn’t push him out, he wanted to go somewhere and play.

He wanted to go, he saw the level of competitiveness.

There is a huge level of competition, he wanted to go and I accept the consequences of that.

Make of it what you will, but as much as Jack loves this club, if he’s not going to get the chances to push on and show his quality then I don’t blame him for leaving.

Look at his situation right now, he’s the star man at a club that are always pushing in attack, and as a result of that he’s regained a place in the England squad.

The only upside to Aaron Ramsey having such an awful season is that Wilshere will be seen as the perfect replacement for both him and Cazorla when he comes to the end of his days.

Wilshere has proven his fitness and a pre-season with the Gunners could swing his mind the other way when thinking about leaving.

After all, it was his decision and Wenger has repeatedly insisted that he is keen to extend the midfielder’s contract for as long as possible.
