I woke up this morning, ready to read another Arsene Wenger press conference. What happened next put me in a bad mood for the rest of my day..
The quote that jumped out at me was the following: “If everybody is fit and available, we don’t need to delve into transfer market, but it depends if Koscielny is fit or not.”
That is such a frustrating thing to read. Arsene Wenger is mad if he thinks Arsenal don’t need more players – whether Koscielny is fit or not. We are currently one injury away from having no centre backs, or even players capable of playing centre back. With Koscielny having a long-term problem, we need two centre backs. It should not depend on injuries at the time of the window, because throughout the season we will always have loads.
Ignoring the defence, Arsenal need to add a world class midfielder. Even if all our midfielders are fit, there is an obvious missing link in midfield with no physical presence. Wenger knows that, but it looks like he is willing to wait until the end of the season before addressing this area of his squad. That’s frustrating.
On top of that, Wenger revealed that Aaron Ramsey would be out for this weekends game – and that his injury could keep him out for a few weeks. This is incredibly frustrating because he looked like he has just re-discovered his best form.
