It’s been a long, long time coming but Arsenal overcame all the odds and finally beat Bayern Munich “the best team in Europe”! What a complete turnaround after losing to both Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos last month.
Both goals came late in the game. The first to find the net in the 77th minute was courtesy of Olivier Giroud from a Santi Cazorla assist; the second arrived in the 90th minute of play from Mesut Özil (Hector Bellerin assist). For the first time in a UCL match we kept a clean sheet – would this have anything to do with Petr Cech being back in goal? I understand he made six saves during the match (two more than David Ospina did whilst in goal in both of the previous UCL matches).
Whatever the reason, Arsenal defied the match stats:
