Report: Arsenal Prepare Second £20m Bid For German

Arsenal are set to launch an improved bid for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, to the tune of £20m, according to reports.

Arsene Wenger is said to have made an £18.4m bid during the January transfer window, which was unsuccessful, but he is determined to bring the German ace to the Emirates.

Gundogan has struggled for fitness in the past 18 months and could be lured away from Jurgen Klopp’s side, as the German giants have endured a troubled season and are unlikely to secure European football next term.

The defensive-minded midfielder would give Arsenal a boost in that area of the field, which is said to be a focus of Wenger this summer despite the tremendous form of Francis Coquelin this year.

Arsenal face competition from both Manchester United and Barcelona for the player, despite the Catalan outfit not being able to purchase new players until January next year.

Whilst Gundogan would be a decent addition, his injury record would be brought into question as Arsenal have enough issues as it is with sidelined players.

Morgan Schneiderlin of Southampton would be a better fit and a smarter purchase but Gundogan presents a cheap alternative.
