The Gunners could make Benjamin Mendy of AS Monaco their first signing of the summer, as reported by 101 GG who cite French newspaper L’Equipe as their source.

Arsenal scout Giles Grimandi has been extensively scouting Monaco this season, with several players thought to be of interest to the Gunners. Whilst the likes of M’Bappe have taken the plaudits, there have been several other top performers in the Monaco team, including Mendy, who is establishing himself as a top full back.

The 22-year-old Frenchman has made a name for himself in Ligue 1 and is an ever-present in this Monaco side. He has impressively notched up 8 assists in 24 appearances this season. He’s known for his attacking contributions, but he also has a good work rate to be effective defensively.

Mendy is a very athletic player and contributes to many phases of play, he is also tall, especially in terms of a full back, standing at over 6ft. The Gunners would certainly benefit from added height in defence.

Arsenal look very likely to sign a new left back this summer, with Nacho Monreal’s dwindling form a concern and Kieran Gibbs continuing to feature on the fringes of the team. Gibbs appears likely to move on in the summer, whilst Monreal would probably move to a back up role.
