According to the latest from Spanish outlet, TV Galicia, Newcastle United will come forward to pay the £13.4million asking price the Gunners have been holding out for.

Rafa Benitez recently commented on the former Deportivo talisman and admitted his interest after following the Spaniard’s progress during his La Liga days.

Both Benitez and Newcastle are looking for a killer signing to please the fans and picking up a player like Lucas could have a healthy impact both financially and statistically.

Lucas has had plenty of offers on the table but until Wenger accepts an offer, the want-away striker is unable to push through an exit by negotiating personal terms with interested clubs.

Wenger recently confirmed that the 28-year-old would definitely be one of the many to face the music this transfer window despite signing a £17m deal less than 12 months ago.

Fresh Arsenal understand that Lucas’ first-choice destination is his old side Deportivo but they’re struggling to raise the funds needed, another example of Arsenal’s ruthlessness in this window.

Having failed to get any real chance to prove his worth on a regular basis, Lucas has unfinished business in the Premier League and Newcastle could be his saviour.

The Tyneside club are looking to bounce back into the top flight with a bang and now it looks as if their three-month search for a goalscorer has finally come to an end.
