Two defeats in the space of a week and the ongoing speculation as to whether Ozil and Alexis will sign extensions mean Arsenal fans are certainly due some positive news.

And today, it comes in the form of Dimitri Payet, who has told RMC that the chance to play for Arsenal would be an exciting one amid uncertainty over his future at West Ham.

Despite signing a long-term contract extension back in the summer, The Hammers have failed to convince the Frenchman that they are targeting European success this season.

Slaven Bilic’s side have won just five times in the Premier League following their move to the overwhelmingly large new home of London Stadium, where form has eluded them.

Sitting in a lowly position of 13th and way off the pace with those competing for a Europa League spot is supposedly leaving Payet questioning his future with many heavyweights all interested.

One of which is certainly Arsene Wenger, who has met Payet on several occasions during the Euro 2016 finals where the Gunners boss was a pundit for the French side.

And during an interview with GFFN, the 29-year-old couldn’t help but admit one more big move in his career is possible:

I read that Wenger considered me as the missing piece of Arsenal’s play, but he said nothing to me. We conceded five or six at home against them recently.

When you see them play, as a ball playing footballer, one could only enjoy oneself playing in this team. They are candidates for the title every year.

I miss the Champions League, I’ve got some great years ahead of me and I want to enjoy them by playing in important competitions.

West Ham have to consider the chances of Payet leaving and getting him tied down to a contract extension will only have increased his price so it was an important bit of business.

If results don’t start to improve then he’ll be thinking about getting out while he can, because at 29 there’s only really one more chance to play at the highest level.

Reports have stated that West Ham and the manager both understand Payet’s thought process behind wanting to get top football, and Arsenal could be the answer.

With Aaron Ramsey faltering in the midfield and there being no outright number two option for Ozil, the ability to slot Payet in to CAM could be the perfect answer for our depth.
