“After training there are a few shooting drills that can help with self-belief,” Ozil told Arsenal Player. “In general, when you look at my chances in front of goal, I’ve taken them well.

Ozil has netted just twice this season, but is confident of adding more and more specifically beating his tally of seven he netted in his debut season.

“Every player wants to score goals. I’m intending to score more this season than in previous years. It’s most important for us to perform well and to be successful – I’m looking forward to giving assists or scoring goals.

“My aim is to score more goals this season than in the last two. I think I’m on a good path and will achieve that.”

Ozil’s assists have caught the eye this season, but what does he need to do to beat his previous seasons tallies at Arsenal?

15/16 – 14 apps, 10 assists, 2 goals
14/15 – 31 apps, 8 assists, 5 goals
13/14 – 43 apps, 14 assists, 7 goals

(stats include all club competitions)

As you can see from the stats above, Ozil seems much sharper this season. Although his goal tally is not that high yet, he does look more comfortable in attacking positions this season, definitely more confident. If he manages 20 assists and 10 goals in all competitions, it would prove to be an excellent return – one that could make him worthy of the Player of the Year award. The early signs are good.
