And it looks as if Arsene Wenger will continue his ways after it was revealed Per Mertesacker is edging closer to committing his long term future to the club.
According to reports across British media today, an announcement is imminent after the 32-year-old put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at the club until the end of next season.
Earlier on this month the Gunners boss confirmed he would trigger the option to extend the BFG’s contract for another year, along with fellow veteran Santi Cazorla.
But with arguably four players higher up in the pecking order for a centre back place, many supporters have had mixed reactions to the news.
Mustafi, Koscielny, Gabriel and Holding are all considered to be the main choices at the heart of defence, with Calum Chambers and Krystian Bielik also coming through the ranks.
