Gossip: Arsenal prepare bids for £40million Premier League trio but Bender deal hits snag

As the season draws to a close, the gossip begins. We will be bringing you an Arsenal filtered gossip column throughout the summer. Today reports suggest Arsenal will bid £40million for Bony, Schneiderlin and Richards, and that their bid for Lars Bender has hit a snag. See all the Arsenal transfer news in our Gossip Column

Arsenal have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Lars Bender after the midfielder revealed that he has no intention of quitting Bayer Leverkusen (Sport Review). Bender would be a brilliant signing for Arsenal, but if they can’t get him then Schneiderlin should be a transfer priority. Bender is a quality player, however he hasn’t had his best season, his club have no reason to sell and now the player has said he will not push for a move. It all points to a frustrating end, and perhaps Arsenal would be wiser to move for Schneiderlin, who is proven in the Premier League and is of similar quality to that of Lars Bender, and would perhaps be a little bit cheaper at around £15million.

Swansea’s Wilfried Bony (£20m), Manchester City’s Micah Richards (£8m) and Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin (£12m) are the trio at the top of the Arsene Wenger’s wish list (HITC). Micah Richards could be a good signing with Bacary Sagna set to depart, but if he was signed I feel we would need to recruit another top right back as Richards is injury prone and Jenkinson is not ready. Schneiderlin would replace Arteta perfectly in the midfield, but add more energy and bite, as the Spaniard prepares to take a more back seat role. Bony would provide a good, Premier League striking option. So although none of these players would be World Class additions, I’d certainly have few complaints if Wenger were to pull it off.

Arsenal have joined the £20million race to sign Danny Welbeck, arch rivals Tottenham are also interested (Mirror). Welbeck is a useful player, but not at £20million. Yes he’s English, but I’d much rather welcome back Carlos Vela for just £3.5million – not only is he cheaper, he’s more productive and has much more potential. Welbeck did show signs of becoming a £20million-£30million player a few years ago, but he has failed to reach those heights yet and there would be little point in building on Man Utd’s transfer kitty by purchasing their back-up players.

Loic Remy set tongues wagging at the Emirates after being spotted in the stands watching Arsenal’s win over West Brom (Metro). Remy would be a decent signing, but his visit to the Emirates was apparently non transfer related. Arsene Wenger has denied knowing he was in the stands whilst rumours suggest Remy was simply there as a guest before holding talks with his parent club QPR. Below is the picture of him in the stands.
