Gossip: Arsenal close to completing first signing of the summer and want Muller and van Persie

As the season draws to a close, the gossip begins. We will be bringing you an Arsenal filtered gossip column throughout the summer. Today reports suggest Arsenal are interested in Thomas Muller and Aurier has all but signed a five year deal with the Gunners. See all the Arsenal transfer news in our Gossip Column

Arsenal have joined Liverpool and Manchester United in having an interest in Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller (Bild). If Muller moves then he would be a good option for us. He’s young, versatile and hard working. It would be a great signing, but in all honesty I cannot see it happening. I would be surprised if he actually leaves Munich, and the rumours have probably stemmed from his agent trying to get a good deal – as usual.

Arsenal are close to completing a deal for Serge Aurier, he will sign a 5 year contract (TMW). TMW claim this an exclusive, and to be fair to them they are often on point with their exclusives. I think Aurier is the natural heir to Sagna at Arsenal and even if this exclusive is not true, I would not be surprised at all if Aurier were Arsene Wenger’s first signing this summer.

Arsenal are ready to go head-to-head with Manchester United to sign Robin van Persie’s seven-year-old son Shaqueel (Metro). Na you’re alright Shaqueel. Sorry your father has made that decision for us. Honestly though this sounds like a silly newspaper story drummed up to cause debate amongst Arsenal and Man Utd fans.

Jay Rodriguez is set to snub interest from Arsenal by signing a new deal at Southampton (Mirror). Rodriguez would have been a good solid signing for us. He wouldn’t break records but he is a good versatile, Premier League proven attacking option. However I think he’d cost in the region of £20million, a figure that is too steep for a player of his quality. Carlos Vela would be a wiser choice for a player who plays a similar role, and he’d cost just £3.3million with his buy-back clause.

Arsenal are weighing up a move for Valencia defender Adil Rami (Fichajes). Seems a bit silly this one. We’ve been linked to Rami several times and nothing ever happens. If we were to buy a fourth choice centre back I’d prefer it if he were either young, English or versatile. Rami fits none of that criteria so I hope this one comes to nothing. It says a lot if Milan don’t want to make his loan deal permanent.

Is Aurier a good replacement for Sagna? Should the Gunners be in for Rami? Comment below with your thoughts.
