Exclusive Interview: Arsenal Fan Milton Jones Talks To FreshArsenal.com

‘Famous Arsenal Fans’ (Part Two):

Despite being from South-West London, Milton Jones is very much an Arsenal fan. Only recently, the 50-year-old comedian was a guest on Soccer AM and wore a retro 1990-92 Arsenal Home shirt, which seems like relatively normal attire compared to what he usually wears! Ahead of his five-month long UK tour, the Mock the Week regular talks exclusively to FreshArsenal.com about the club, Arsene Wenger and our rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.

Milton

Here is the interview:

1. Hello Milton. How did you first become interested in Arsenal?

I was under pressure at school to pick a team, and Arsenal were in the Cup Final that year.

2. Do you go to games regularly?

With touring etc. I only manage two or three games a year.

3. What is your favourite moment as an Arsenal fan?

1) ‘It’s up for grabs now’ on TV. (referring to the 1989 Title-decider between Arsenal and Liverpool)

2) And being at the Cup Final last year with my son Adam.

4. Who’s your all-time favourite Arsenal player and why?

Steve Morrow. He always went down well. Thierry’s too obvious.

5. Who’s your current favourite Arsenal player and why?

‘Sanchez-man’, who must drink way too much coffee.

6. What do you think of Arsene Wenger? Do you think he’s still the right man for the job?

He deserves a statue outside the club. But not an expensive one, a cheap second-hand one from the French Second Division of statues. It’s what he would want.

7. Where do you think Arsenal will finish in the League?

4th as usual, of course.

8. Do you know any other comedians who are Arsenal fans?

Virtually all comedians are Arsenal fans. This is because there is a rude word in the name.

9. Would you rather perform at the O2 Arena in London in front of a sold-out crowd OR would you rather Arsenal win the Champions League?

Tricky. I think play the O2 and keep the money. Because if Arsenal won the Champions League I would always know it was an elaborate fabrication as a result of answering some questions for a website, rather than on merit.

10. And finally, do you know any football-related jokes?

I saw the film ‘Pocahontas’ the other day. Can’t believe she’s now managing Tottenham.
