The 28-year-old will be the biggest name on the Gunners departures list this summer having been bought for £17.1million on the penultimate day of the transfer window last year.

It’s being reported by James Olley of the Evening Standard that Arsenal are coming to terms with Deportivo’s financial issues in order to get some sort of permanent deal completed.

Fresh Arsenal understands that the Gunners have rejected several loan offers from Premier League sides as they want his £45,000-per-week wages completed wiped off of the bill.

Arsene Wenger is reluctant to make a loss on the Spanish forward but in the hopes of bringing in more players, Lucas’ departure is absolutely vital in terms of squad space and financial resources.

This is a deal that Lucas and his agent have been trying to push through for months after the poor treatment he’s received by Wenger, something many fans have questioned.

Deportivo’s last offer of £11million is still on the table and it’s likely Arsenal will demand some sort of add-ons to be paid over a number of years to make the overall fee something in the region of £15million.
