The right back exploded onto the first team scene this season after impressing in the reserves for a couple of years. Although Bellerin came from Barcelona, he seems to have no immediate desire to return to the Spanish outfit, despite strong interest from them.

Bellerin wants to commit his future to Arsenal and looks set to sign a new five year deal before the new season starts. It is expected he will earn around £50,000 per week on his new deal, a significant increase on his current earnings.

Bellerin has spoken very positively about last season and even suggests he would not sulk about Mathieu Debuchy coming back into the starting line-up for a while.

‘Last year was crazy for me,’ said Bellerin. ‘It was a beautiful year. I’ve played 30 games with the first team and I don’t consider myself one of the main players. But to be a regular in the first has been a great achievement. I am really happy and proud.

‘Competition between players is always good. If you don’t have competition you relax and never improve. The fact we have three or four players who can play at right-back makes it better. It’s down to the boss.’

Debuchy will probably spend two or three more seasons at the club, and Carl Jenkinson could return to the club next summer if he impresses again on loan at West Ham. Calum Chambers is also an option at right back but Arsene Wenger considers Chambers best position to be at centre back.

It’s great to hear that Bellerin is set to commit his long term future to the club, he could potentially be one of the best right backs in the world. He’s only 20, and looks very comfortable in the Arsenal starting line up.

Bellerin also has a new shirt number for the season, no. 24.
