The Serie A giants have reportedly wrapped up a deal to bring Internacianol’s shot-stopper Alisson to the club on a permanent basis, suggesting Szczesny could be set to pack his bags.

The 25-year-old has made himself a regular at Roma since his loan move at the start of the 2015/16 campaign, despite a few dreadful performances against the likes of Barcelona.

Over the course of two Champions League fixtures with the reigning champions, Barcelona put seven goals past the Polish international which raised alarm bells over his ability.

If the news turns out to be true that Szczesny is on his way back to North London, Arsene Wenger will have to work on his man-management in order to ensure his side are set up properly for next season.

Current Arsenal number two, David Ospina is growing sick and tired of playing the long game with very little chance to ever overtake Petr Cech, who currently boasts the most Premier League clean sheets.

Rumours over the course of the season have linked the Colombian with a move away from the Emirates, but they’ve been hounded through comments made by Wenger.

The 66-year-old recently stated that Ospina was good enough to become the future number 1 at Arsenal, possibly giving the fans some reassurance that the goalkeeper is staying put.

But with Szczesny’s likely re-arrival in the summer, it’s impossible to see all three of them staying, which means one of either Ospina or Szczesny will be out the exit door.

In a perfect world Wenger would keep hold of Ospina, but that would mean another season playing understudy to a goalkeeper that doesn’t look like retiring any time soon.

Szczesny would probably welcome a move back to the club though, he’s been a fan all season and Arsenal runs through his blood, as he’s stated on so many occasions.

This will be a case of who is more likely to play the long game and hold their patience until Cech is no longer needed at the club, something that is hard for this duo to do.

It is thought that Everton have opened talks with Arsenal to sign Szczesny.
