Arsenal’s start to deadline day has been very quiet, but there is still time for the Gunners to pull a surprise deal out the bag. Here’s three deals that Arsene Wenger could complete today:
1. Asier Illaramendi
A report in Spanish media outlet MARCA suggests Arsenal have made an offer to sign Asier Illarramendi in the summer – but a deal could be pushed forward to January.
This one makes the most sense. Arsenal need to sign another defensive midfielder and after the signing of Lucas Silva, Real Madrid could be open to selling Illaramendi. He would cost in the region of £20million and would provide a good replacement for Mikel Arteta. However Coquelin’s success in the holding role has made me question whether we need to replace Arteta with a player of similar style.
Illarramendi is a very talented midfielder who likes to play at the base of the midfield. He plays in the Mikel Arteta role, and it is popular belief that he would be the perfect successor to Arsenal’s current Spaniard anchorman.
