Bernard refuses to comment on Arsenal link

Brazilian midfielder Bernard has refused to comment on speculation suggesting Arsenal have a deal in place to sign him by the end of this week.

A report on Monday suggested Arsenal had agreed a £21million deal with Atletico Miniero for the 20 year-old and he would sign a 5 year deal on Friday. When questioned on the report Bernard refused to speculate, instead concentrating on the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday night – the player told Sky Sports.

“I don’t want to talk about this in a week as important as this one,” he told Superesportes.

“I want to talk about the game and I don’t want to be impolite or ignore it in any way.

“I don’t know what will happen after the game. My future at Atletico Mineiro will be in the board’s hands from Thursday onwards.”

His focus is understood and the Copa Libertadores is the equivalent of a South American Champions League. Thursday will be the day we find out more on Bernard and his future with FC Porto still regarded as favourites by many for the Brazilians signature due to a complicated third party ownership of the player which could complicate any move to the Gunners.
