Arsenal are heading into the final stages of completing a deal to bring Mohamed Elneny to the club this January, according to manager Arsene Wenger.
Ahead of the Gunners weekend FA Cup tie with Sunderland, the boss spoke to the media and reassured fans with a number of positive updates regarding transfer news.
Media outlets across the country have consistently linked Arsenal with a new target week after week, but Wenger used his conference to straighten out some creases in a number of stories.
As well as confirming the deal for Elneny was nearing completion, the 66-year-old suggested that he could be willing to bring more names in before the transfer window closes.
It is complicated (Elneny transfer) a little bit but we are working hard on it and hopefully in the next two or three days we will get to the end of it.
The only one? I don’t rule out anyone else, but he will be at least one signing that comes into an area where we are short at the moment.
Who those additional players could be still remains a mystery, and after Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang waved away any links to Arsenal, you can guarantee more gossip is on the way.
Following some bizarre claims linking the North London club with Troy Deeney, Wenger was quick to ensure the media that rumours of that move were “rubbish”.
One we thing we can be sure of though is work is definitely being done through this window, with Wenger opening up a bit of a transfer merry-go-round.
Every day it looks ever likely that Mathieu Debuchy will be waving goodbye to the Emirates, with Roma and Aston Villa reportedly interested in his services.
He has an opportunity to go but he as well has not been in touch with any club.
That was the comments made by the boss, who signed the right-back at the start of last season, but has since had appearances cut short following the rise of Hector Bellerin.
Debuchy will most likely find a new club to work with for the remainder of the season, with one eye on getting much-needed playing time ahead of this years European Championships.
But in the meantime he must stay professional, and could be in contention to start tomorrow’s FA Cup fixture against Sunderland, as Wenger prepares to make serious rotation changes.
