Arsenal to make £14m bid for Cabaye

Arsenal are set to make an improved £14million offer for Yohan Cabaye, Fresh Arsenal understands – they are confident this will be enough to sign the French midfielder.

It is believed Newcastle have indicated they will accept an offer of £15million + £5m in add-ons, with Cabaye set to sit out another game for his current club tomorrow night when his club face Morecambe in the second round of the Capital One Cup.

The Gunners tabled a £10million bid last Sunday which was turned down almost immediately and Arsenal have been biding their time before coming back with an improved offer. Since the offer Cabaye was left out of the squad to face Manchester City and also looks set to miss the clubs fixture against West Ham today. Pardew finds himself in a tricky situation, with the player keen to push through a move away from the club. PSG have also been linked but it doesn’t look like they will make any official bid. Arsenal’s improved bid of £14million will really test the resolve of Newcastle and it could be enough to sign the 27 year-old ball-playing midfielder.

Arsenal are also pursuing moves for Valencia goalkeeper Guaita and Real Madrid pair Ángel di María and Karim Benzema. Mathieu Flamini could also join the club on a short term deal, whilst a right-sided defender is also on the agenda.
