Arsenal are ‘favourites’ to sign a Monaco midfielder that has attracted interest from all around Europe.
There are many Monaco players in demand across Europe after their recent performances. Battling at the top of Ligue 1 and competing toe to toe in Europe has seem many admirers for players such as Mbappe, Fabinho, Falcao, Bernardo Silva etc. but Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign box to box midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
The combative central midfielder could replace the injury-plagued Santi Cazorla in the squad and help add a new dimension to Arsenal’s midfield.
The reports of Arsenal being favourites come from Sports MediaSet (Italy) via Football.London.
If Bakayoko was to sign for Arsenal, he certainly wouldn’t come cheap. Monaco are a club that likes to maximise their value of players and I think considering what they sold Martial for, they would be looking for in excess of £40million to let go of Bakayoko.
But aged 22, Bakayoko is already one of the leading midfielders in Europe and he could be a player that follows in the footsteps of Paul Pogba, who is now the world record transfer.
He’s a box to box player and strong in the duel, Arsenal don’t really have a player like that currently. They have Xhaka who is strong, but he is not energetic or made for a box to box role, I feel Bakayoko would thrive alongside Xhaka who is a similar player to his current midfield partner Fabinho.
This one is worth watching as the summer draws closer, if Wenger is the man in charge then I have no doubt he will be pursuing Bakayoko as a summer transfer target. Who knows, Arsenal could even replace Wenger with current Monaco manager Jardim.
