Arsenal Make €30million Bid For Chelsea Target

Arsenal have tabled a €30million bid for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira according to El Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish media outlet report: ‘Sami Khedira could be close to going to the Premier League. Arsenal would be interested in his move and have offered around €30million by the German midfielder as several German media revealed yesterday.’

Arsenal are looking to add a top quality defensive midfielder to their squad, and Real Madrid appear to be set to add another central midfielder to their squad with the imminent signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos.

There is no confirmation on whether this bid is legitimate, but Arsene Wenger is a long term fan of Khedira’s, and a bid of £23million is likely to be enough to sign the 27-year-old defensive midfielder.

Attack wise, the depth in arsenal’s midfield is hard to match at most major European clubs. However, last year, defensively the midfield wasn’t good enough and left the defence far too exposed, particularly in key away games, such as Man.City, Liverpool and Chelsea. Arteta is quite old now, and his influence is definitely waining. The same can be said for Flamini also. Therefore a younger, fresher player is needed to screen in front of the back four.

Wenger may not feel he needs another defensive midfielder, but if Khedira is really available I’d like to think that he’d be interested. Hopefully, the ever growing list of Germans at the club can help lure Khedira to add to the collection and in the process improve Arsenal’s defensive frailties from last season.
