Arsene Wenger has been linked with the French striker over the last four seasons, and has been heavily criticised for failing to pay the money for a world-class striker.

However, it seems the Gunners boss is now ready to make a move for the 27-year-old, after prioritising a deal which reportedly will cost around £35m.

The news comes following a tweet by reliable Spanish journalist, Kike Marin, who works very closely with the transfer business at both Arsenal and Real Madrid.

Marin confirmed that Wenger was now concentrating on bringing Benzema to the Emirates, but that could now be halted due to the arrival of new manager, Rafa Benitez.

Benzema has just completed another impressive season with the La Liga runners-up, scoring 22 goals and creating 11 assists from 38 appearances in all competitions.

But despite those statistics, the French international has been at the full front of Madrid fans angers this season, with the club failing to obtain any sort of major domestic trophy, a record that has forced Carlo Ancelotti to be shown the exit door.

That stands as good information for Arsenal fans though, who would be more than happy to welcome the striker this summer, with the future of Theo Walcott in doubt and unreliability of fellow French teammate, Olivier Giroud.

Wenger confirmed that he would only be interested in signing players of the highest quality from now on, and Benzema fits that description.

It is now in the hands of Rafa Benitez as to whether he wants to keep the striker, who faced serious competition from Javier Hernandez and James Rodriguez throughout this years campaign.

But the Gunners could face stiff competition from the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool, who are both in the market for a top quality striker after disappointing performances up top from both clubs respectively.

A figure of around £35m is a realistic amount for any of the top Premier League clubs to pay, and Real Madrid could be reluctant to listen to the fans for once, who feel like a bigger name is what they need to seriously challenge for the Champions League next season.
