Arsenal Hope To Complete Signing Of €30m Midfielder Before The Weekend

Arsenal are readying a €30million bid for William Carvalho and hope to complete a deal before the weekend according to reports in Portugal.

Last week we brought you the news that Arsenal had tabled a €30million bid for William Carvalho according to OJogo. The report stated that the bid was rejected as Lisbon wanted closer to his €45million (£35million) release clause and more money upfront. More recently Record reported that the player had been put on the market as his club Sporting Lisbon are looking to raise funds.

The strong midfielder had a good World Cup but was barely used due to the Portuguese managers reluctance to tinker with his side. With clear quality and at just 22 years of age, you can see why Arsenal are interested and especially when you note the fact that he can also play as a centre back, an area the Gunners are lacking in depth.

Arsenal have clearly been lacking a commanding, strong and quality presence in their midfield and Carvalho offers all of that and is just 22 years old. He would provide a long term fix to a problem which hasn’t really been solved since Gilberto Silva’s departure. A fee of nearly £30million may be required to complete a deal, but considering his age and quality, it is well worth the investment.

Many may initially question his price tag upon arrival, and compared to someone like Sami Khedira, he would need more adaptation time. The reality is though, Carvalho would be more of a sensible signing, especially considering he is likely to demand around half of what Khedira will.
