Arsenal are set to confirm the signings of two new midfielders today, with a double medical booked at London Colney.

The long-awaited signing of Lucas Torreira is set to be completed. The Uruguayan midfielder was very impressive at the World Cup and showed Arsenal fans what he has to offer when he was present on the pitch. You could definitely see how he has drawn comparisons to N’Golo Kante and the energy and defensive ability he clearly possesses will be very welcome at the base of the Arsenal midfield.

Aged just 22, Torreira is set to be a great investment if he continues to develop how he has so far in his career. Having exploded onto the scene at Sampdoria over the last 18 months, Torreira’s price of around £26million appears to represent good value.

If the medical goes to plan, Torreira could be announced as an Arsenal player as early as today.

Also set for a medical today is midfielder Matteo Guendouzi from Lorient. The 19-year-old has impressed in the 2nd tier of French football last season (and in Ligue 1 the season before that) and has caught the eye of Arsenal scouts. With a fee of around £6million agreed, a move for Matteo could also be confirmed today.

It is thought that a move for Guendouzi has probably occurred due to missing out on Yacine Adli. This appears to rule out a move for a more experienced midfielder like Stephen N’Zonzi or Ever Banega, who have been linked heavily with the Gunners in recent weeks.

Arsenal have already completed deals for Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno and Sokratis. The club are still open to signing another defender and possibly a wide forward. Further arrivals are expected to rely on outgoings financially.
