Arsenal And Chelsea On Alert As Southampton Star Wants To Leave

Arsenal have long been linked with Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin, and this summer they might finally be able to get their man.

The French midfielder is ready to join a Champions League club and as the season draws to a close, it seems Southampton will miss out on qualifying for the competition.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman appears to think the reason some of his players could leave this summer is because of money:

“We can’t keep everybody, it’s about money, it’s about contracts. We know our level. We know it’s difficult, impossible sometimes, to have a really good fight with a big one.” Koeman said.

“The big teams have big money and can offer better contracts. We have a top wage in our club and we don’t pass that.

“We don’t need to sell. It’s all about the bids of other clubs, what they really like to pay. If you are doing well there is always interest but all the players have a contract for next season and until now there is not any serious bid.”

Whilst Koeman did not directly mention Schneiderlin, it seems obvious he is one of the players he is referring too.

The 25 year old wanted to leave for Champions League football last summer, but was eventually forced to stay due to too many other players leaving. His stay has worked out quite well though, he has helped Southampton consolidate a top eight finish whilst his consistent performances have helped raise interest in him further.

The Mirror recently reported Arsenal’s interest in the player had cooled – but I’m sure if Southampton don’t make the Champions League Arsene Wenger will be on alert.
