Arsenal are still thought to be active in the transfer market, with the potential of one or two players arriving before the end of the month – but before that happens, it seems that the Gunners will have to part with a fair few players, with boss Arsene Wenger admitting that his squad was already too large.
“To be honest the number is too high and we let some players go because too much competition for places is detrimental, not enough competition for places is detrimental as well. But I agree with you that 33 is too high.” said Wenger.
In this article we take a look at seven members of the first team squad that look set to move on before the end of the month.
1 – Lucas Perez
The Spaniard is perhaps the most likely to leave Arsenal before the season starts this weekend. He has many suitors including former club Deportivo, but it is Newcastle who have been public with their admiration of the player. Perez is a quality and versatile forward, but he is out of favour at The Emirates, with Wenger preferring several other forwards. It is almost certain that Lucas will move on after his short spell at the Emirates, with Arsenal likely to recoup around £10million-£12million for him.
