The Gunners are in desperate need of defensive cover and whilst Hummels is yet to realise his potential, the 25-year-old would offer Arsenal a quality defensive solution.

In short, if Hummels is on the market – Arsenal must buy him. At 25 he is about to enter his prime and could become a leader in the Arsenal back four.

Laurent Koscielny is set to miss at least another two weeks, with no return date specified by Arsenal.

Hummels has national team experience alongside Per Mertesacker, and could form a deadly duo with Koscielny.

If he did join, Hummels would be the latest in a growing list of German internationals that have opted for the Emirates. This German factor may be a reason as to why Hummels wants to choose the Gunners over Manhcester United – according to the Mirror of course.

It’s rare to see such a quality defender available and with Dortmund sitting bottom of the Bundesliga – the German defender may be keen to jump ship in January.

The reported asking price for Hummels is £30million – whilst this is steep, I think he’s worth a lot of money. He has dipped in and out of form but there is no doubt that he has the potential to be one of the best centre-backs in Europe.

Considering the likes of Elaquim Mangala were sold for over £30million, signing Hummels for anything less than £30million would be a good deal in my opinion. Do you agree? Share your thoughts below.
