3 Keepers Arsenal Could Still Sign

After the confirmation of the signing of David Ospina, Arsenal now have two established first-team goalkeepers for next season. However, with question marks over their current 3rd choice goalkeeper, Damian Martínez. Arsenal may be looking to sign a quality young goalkeeper to provide temporary cover as 3rd choice. Here’s three they should consider signing:

3. Jack Butland – Stoke City

Everyone who follows the Premier League will know who Jack Butland is. He was one of the three goalkeepers taken to the 2012 European Championships by Roy Hodgson for the England squad and, although he has rarely been selected for England after this experience, he is still largely considered to be England’s next goalkeeper. Having signed for Stoke City from Birmingham City, Butland’s development appears to have been stunted a little, primarily down to the form of current number one Asmir Begovic.

However, Butland’s talent remains, and he is still very young. What’s more, Butland is English, and with Arsenal currently trying to establish a core of young English players, signing the young Stoke goalkeeper makes sense. Additionally, Butland would count as a homegrown player, which is a very valuable asset to have in a land of foreign players. With Stoke apparently not ready to give Butland the boost he needs to revitalise his career, they may be willing to let him go for a modest fee, and with Arsenal potentially in need of a third-choice goalkeeper, the Gunners should pounce on Stoke’s hesitancy to give Butland games. Butland could play in the Capital One Cup for his first few seasons, and then see whether he is ready to challenge current number one Wojciech Szczesny for his starting spot. Use the page numbers below to reveal two more keepers Arsenal could sign, the next two are slightly more obscure..
